A Meaningful North Carolina Arboretum Wedding for Two Arborists

An intimate Asheville wedding filled with gratitude, connection, and thoughtful moments.

Some wedding days are memorable because of grand details and elaborate celebrations. Others are memorable because of the people at the center of them.

Elizabeth and Mark’s wedding at the North Carolina Arboretum was one of those days.

As arborists, they have dedicated their careers to caring for and understanding trees, making the Arboretum a fitting and meaningful place to begin this next chapter together. Surrounded by beautiful gardens and the natural beauty of Asheville, North Carolina, they gathered with their closest family and friends for an intimate celebration centered on connection, gratitude, and love.

With around thirty of their favorite people by their side, every part of the day felt thoughtful and intentional. Nothing felt rushed or overdone. Instead, the focus remained exactly where they wanted it: on their marriage and the people who matter most.

One of the things I love about intimate weddings is the freedom they create for couples. Sometimes people don’t realize how different a wedding day can feel when it is intentionally kept small. When every guest is someone they genuinely want there, couples are often able to be more present, more relaxed, and more connected.

That intentionality extended to the atmosphere they wanted to create as well. Guests were encouraged to leave their black attire at home, helping create a celebration that felt more like a garden party than a formal event. Surrounded by the gardens of the North Carolina Arboretum, the soft colors and relaxed atmosphere felt perfectly suited to the day they envisioned.

Rather than managing a large event, they are free to simply enjoy the people they love most.

Elizabeth and Mark embraced that beautifully.

It was also one of those hot Asheville summer days that could have easily become the focus of conversation. Yet Elizabeth and Mark never seemed bothered by the heat. Throughout the day they remained present, relaxed, and grateful, soaking in each moment alongside family and friends.

As a photographer, I notice when couples spend their wedding day worrying about timelines, weather, and little details. Elizabeth and Mark were simply happy to be together.

One of my favorite moments came during their vows.

As Mark became emotional, Elizabeth gently reached up and touched his face in comfort. It was such a simple gesture, but it beautifully reflected the care, tenderness, and quiet strength of their relationship.

The kind of moment that says everything without a single word.

Getting Married at the North Carolina Arboretum

Whether couples are planning a larger celebration or a smaller gathering with their closest family and friends, the North Carolina Arboretum offers a setting that feels deeply connected to the natural beauty of Western North Carolina.

For Elizabeth and Mark, it was the perfect choice.

The details of their day felt just as intentional as everything else. Beautiful florals from Carolina Flowers complemented the gardens perfectly, and every space felt welcoming, relaxed, and true to the couple.

One of the things I loved most was how every design choice seemed to support the experience rather than compete with it.

Their reception carried that same spirit of gratitude.

One of the sweetest moments of the evening was hearing Elizabeth and Mark take time to thank the incredible team of vendors who helped bring their wedding day to life. It was a thoughtful gesture and a reflection of the kindness that seemed woven throughout the entire celebration.

Instead of a traditional wedding cake, guests enjoyed desserts from Asheville favorite Old Europe Pastries, another personal touch that felt perfectly suited to their celebration.

Like everything else about the day, it reflected what mattered most to them rather than what was expected.

From the gardens of the North Carolina Arboretum to the heartfelt moments shared with family and friends, Elizabeth and Mark created a wedding day that felt authentic, meaningful, and perfectly suited to who they are.

As I look back through these images, what stands out most isn’t any one detail or portrait. It’s the way Elizabeth and Mark chose to spend their day fully present with the people they love most.
